How bad has Obama's vetting process been? Seems like pretty much all of the top nominees have had to say, "Oops, really regret... x or y". Couldn't some rigor been put into selecting folks? I know you need to have experienced folks, but couldn't they have found a few less tarnished old records to put back on the gramaphone?
Can we survive zero fault expectations of civil servants? Do really demand perfect lives? From infidelity to tax evasion to perjury and obstruction of justice, seems like everyones done it if they're in charge. Are these things so bad? Do they really undercut the people's confidence in elected officials? I think lowering expectations are good, then as we see that government is run by the less than perfect we'll stop expecting government to solve all our problems.
On the other hand we could expect elected/nominated officials to live up to the same standards we do: pay taxes, don't cheat on your wife (or husband), etc etc. Just as a bottom line, if you can't do that, well thanks, appreciate that you had good inputs previously, but I think we'll be able to find someone else in the system, better yet from outside the system, to do some good work too.
Or is the old folks political system just too entrenched to ever let more than the slightest glimmer of non-approved shinyness shine through? Silly and poorly worded question.
At the end of the day of course, politicians antics are our own fault, we love to decry the pork and bad examples, but when it comes time to send someone to the state or national capital, we want our "bastard" in there cause we want the "free" money from the state/feds. Anyway, Obama is shredding good will with tiny cuts, democrats and republicans are the same- all above the law and at the end of the day, nothing will change, the country and the world will keep sliding down the tubes cause no one will really talk to folks and present the real choices that have to be made. Whatevs.
